About Me

I study cloud computing products, services, and solutions.
I perform project and contract work for organizations to determine which cloud solution would be beneficial to them; pull together a project team; and proceed to implementation.

Solutions
If you have a solution you would like me to study
OR
your organization needs someone to lead them in the direction of the cloud, contact me.

I'm currently interested in applying cloud computing in larger Enterprise/corporate environments; fine-grain access control for many people to use a single account; and portability from one cloud infrastructure to another.

Known as a strategic thinker and professional communicator, Steve Staso enables many clients to gain a competitive advantage with cloud, web, and internet technologies. Equally familiar with the business drivers of both enterprises and startups, he applies best practices from each to help solve the complex business problems faced by many organizations.

During the latter portion of his 13 years at Sun Microsystems, he pioneered a leading market position for Web 2.0 by conceptualizing a corporate strategy, driving the global sales engagement campaign as a business developer and conference speaker, as well as socializing the story through technical grassroots communities. Steve expanded the technical talent for Sun through the development of world class web infrastructure architects in 16 countries by creating curriculum, designing courses, engineering lab exercises, and teaching courses at internal engineering conferences.

As the Global Director of Web Infrastructure Solution Sales, Steve grew solution sales 43% over 3 years into a $500M line of new business by developing and expanding new opportunities in US, Canada, China, UK, Germany. He enabled 180% of sales goal achievement for the internet startup market by devising a customer community and co-developing a streamlined purchasing program that included free technical support. Many websites such as LinkedIn, SmugMug, Sina, Zhengtu and Betfair have all benefitted from Steve's technical leadership. Steve also held several sales positions including Regional Sales Manager for the Pacific Coast where he was responsible for $80M sales of Identity management and security software.

In 1997, Steve merged his engineering and business skills early in his career and co-founded a few startups (VersaCash offering private, pre-paid, e-purchasing; and Shibumi offering web design).

From 1987 to 1992, Steve proudly served as an officer in the US Air Force. Holding the equivalent position as a CIO for a 350 member organization in Los Angeles, California; as well as a Command Communications Officer for Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska provided him with rigorous training and experience unmatched in the civilian sector. Steve continues to serve as a Reserve officer for the Air Force Academy Admissions office.

Steve sits on the Los Angeles board of directors for AFCEA, a non-profit organization for computer intelligence professionals. During his 17 years on the board, Steve has ushered in a new wave of technology and communication standards that serve as a model for other chapters around the globe.

Steve becomes deeply involved in all his ventures. The vast, influential network and strong relationships he built over the years provides strength to his solid reputation among his colleagues. Steve also happily contributes his free time and leadership supporting civic, school, and youth sports programs

Steve graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Master of Business Administration and from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
